ElPaso is located at the western tip of Texas surrounded by borders, desert and mountains. We have Mexico and New Mexico border’s as our neighbors, which we can easily visit traveling a couple of miles. The Rio Grande River starts in the Southern part of Colorado and travels through New Mexico, Texas, and into Mexico emptying in the Gulf of Mexico. The River is 1,885 miles long and it is essential for irrigation. Our city is divided into 4 sections: Northeast, Eastside, Westside and Upper Valley. The Westside and Upper Valley are separated from the Northeast, and Eastside by the Franklin Mountains. Our beautiful mountains provide a gorgeous scenic backdrop manifesting different colors throughout the seasons and the times of day. There is a tramway which also provides beautiful vistas from the top. The mountains not only provide beauty and gorgeous views, but are also used for hiking, biking, and running. We are within an hour and a half to lakes and boating and within a 3 hour drive to mountains and skiing. A diversity of cultures merge and provide wonderful traditions. Some of our residents live out their traditions and teach others and their young to follow. Other great resources are the University of Texas at El Paso, the El Paso Community College, and Texas Tech University’s Paul Foster School of Medicine, which will seat its first class of 4 year medical students in 2009. These institutions along with Fort Bliss Army Base bring people from all over the world. Many of them stay because they love what El Paso has to offer. El Paso has so much to offer, not only culturally, but places to go and things to do. El Paso has museums, parks, recreational centers, a city zoo, stadiums, theaters, an opera, the longest continually playing symphony in the state, and much more. Seasonally we have baseball games in Cohen Stadium. We have basketball and football at UTEP and host the Sun Bowl which is nationally televised annually. There are also Monster Truck shows, concerts, free concerts, rodeos, circuses, ice shows, festivals, near by casinos and horse racing. El Paso also has traditions of a yearly Thanksgiving parade, Amigo Airsho, Fourth of July Celebrations and Downtown and UTEP Christmas Lighting. Residents and visitors come out and celebrate with pride. El Paso’s a tranquil city, among the safest in the country, with proud and friendly residents. Our climate is rivaled only by that of San Diego. High desert, we have mild winters with a couple of snowfalls annually, and hot dry summers with delightfully cool evenings for outdoor enjoyment. Sports enthusiasts love it here for year round activities out doors. Also don’t forget to try our delicious Mexican food, the best in the United States.
